Harry Lamb

Established in 1873 the original shop was in Lynn Street, seen here with Henry Lamb the Founder standing in the doorway below the original clock.

The photograph on the right shows the shop after it had been rebuilt. The entrance is now on the opposite side of the shop and the clock has a square outer case. Matthew Lamb is seen standing in the doorway.

The picture (near right) shows Harry Lamb outside the shop. His father, Matthew Lamb died during World War II leaving Harry Lamb as the new owner. But he didn’t officially take over until the war ended, because he was still serving as a captain in the Army.

In 1969 H. Lamb moved to it’s current premises at116 York Road. The picture (below left ) shows the clock being fitted using a round case.

Weather Station

Harry Lamb was a keen meteorologist. Some of his instruments were situated near the railway station. The rest were on the roof of the shop.
“Mr. H. Lambs Barometer” was featured in the Hartlepool Mail for many years.

Here is the shop as it is today. Although Harry Lamb died in 1985 the shop continues to be a family run business with the same traditions of quality and service.
